Vas Deferens Organization

Vas Deferens Organization is a long standing institution of radical outsider musical innovation. Unpredictability is our metier, our music a stitched together Frankenstein-ian crazy quilt of blitzed kosmiche psychedelia, detourned dada kitsch plunder and the most cutting edge manifestations of contemporary electronica praxis. Originally based in Dallas, Texas, VDO initially emerged as a briefly assembled large-scale collective (responsible for our first two cassette-only releases), however the stable and permanent formation of VDO would emerge in 1995 as the duo of former New Orleans resident Matt Castille and former L.A. resident Eric Lumbleau. During our initial Dallas period (circa 1995-1998), VDO issued a flood of releases across a stable of wildly diverse record labels ranging from those specifically earmarked for the psychedelic collector community (Aether, Timothy's Brain etc.) and those specializing in overtly experimental musical manifestations (Charnel Music, Eerie Materials, etc.). In addition to our own recordings (and those done in collaboration (with Brad Laner of Medicine and Electric Company as well as with Mercury Rev), VDO were also well known as producers for a host of other acclaimed psychedelic musicians, notably Ohm, Mazinga Phaser and J. Bone Cro. Circa late 1998, Matt Castille moved back to New Orleans, where Eric Lumbleau was also ultimately to move circe 2005. In the intervening 6-7 years, VDO would periodically get together for recording sessions, though from this period, only one recording has yet to see release (1999's collaboration with Electric Company "More Pelvis Wick For The Baloney Boners"). During this period, Castille was responsible for producing a host of legendary New Orleans artists and bands including Quintron, Jeff Mattson of Crash Worship as well as local notables Liquidrone & Morning 40 Federation, while also recording his second solo album under the name Muz. Eric Lumbleau continued to actively record with two new bands he helped to found: Sound (who have released two albums to date) and The Pantheon Bar Vanguard (with frequent VDO collaborator Chris Moock, whose album has yet to be released). Another spate of releases (of VDO, Sound and Muz) emerged in 1999 on the New Orleans based Tekito label, followed by a further spate of both archival and new material on the legendary Beta-Lactam Ring Records label circa 2002-2003. Lumbleau moved to New Orleans in early 2005, only for both him and Castille to be driven out of there by Katrina in August. Since then, following a year long re-location to Atlanta where we set up shop as a pro recording studio and continued to record and collaborate (with Tigerbeat6 recording artist Quintron and MC Tracheotomy among others, the latter of whom became our official third member in the beginning of 2006). Currently operating out of both tijuana, Mexico and Dallas (with our musical work continuing via posting files back and forth), VDO will be properly regrouping in Dallas in the latter part of this year, though our musical work continues apace 'til then...
